Speedo ~ Swim Course


1.9km Swim:

Coles Bay Half

After a leisurely walk along Muirs Beach the start of this years race will be directly in front of the world renowned 'Saffire Resort'.

With a beach start swimmers will head directly out approximately 225m before turning back towards the beach, from there they will round another mark 75 metres off the beach and head for home.

Once around the final turning mark (Just before exiting the swim) swimmers head to the beach, exiting near the jetty which will be on the right hand side of the exit.
Competitors will run from the beach up and into the Coles Bay Village Green for the first transition from swim-to-bike.

500m Swim:

Coles Bay Sprint

The straight line swim for the Launceston Toyota Sprint Distance triathlon is a standing start approximately 425 metres along Muirs Beach.
From the start swimmers head out to the first turning buoy (75 metres) keeping it to your left.
Then swim parallel to Muirs Beach to the final mark keeping it to the swimmers left and head a short distance into the beach exiting the water near the jetty which will be on the right hand side of the exit.
Competitors will run from the beach up and into the Coles Bay Village Green for the first transition from swim-to-bike.

AVANTIPLUS Bike Course


90KM BIKE:

Coles Bay Half

Competitors begin the bike course from the Transition/Bike Compound located in the Coles Bay Village Green (bordered by Muirs Beach and the Esplanade). Leaving the Village Green along the Esplanade and exiting on to the Coles Bay Road at the junction of Freycinet Drive/Esplanade and Coles Bay Road. Riders then turn left at the junction and proceedalong the Coles Bay Road heading out of town, a tough little climb up and over the Safire Resort Hill at the 4km mark then down along the undulating Coles Bay Road . Competitors continue past the 10km sprint distance turnaround point just past Flacks Road and on to the turning point past the Friendly Beaches turnoff.  Competitors then head back to the junction at Coles Bay, turnaround and complete the second lap.

Taking care at the “Junction” riders turn right back on to the Esplanade dismounting as they approach the Village Green and Transition.

Competitors should take care at all times on the ride leg as the road is not closed to other vehicles and travel at high speeds along this road.

20KM BIKE:

Coles Bay Sprint

THE RUNNING EDGE Run Course


21.1KM RUN:

coles Bay Half

After dismounting their bikes competitors will veer right into transition to change race clothing for the run leg that takes in the beautiful Coles Bay foreshore. Leaving the transition competitors run out of transition back through the timing station and onto  Esplanade Road. Competitors then run on the left hand side of the road around the Esplanade to the turnaround point at the Coles Bay Jetty. From the turnaround and a quick flight of stairs! competitors run back along the spectacular Esplanade back towards the transition area. Just before the transition area runners turn left and down to Muirs Beach, passing the starting line of the swim course and along the Beach. Towards the end of the flat hard sand of Muirs Beach runners turn at a clearly marked turn around point and head back along the beach. At the end of the beach runners head back up the road in which they entered the beach returning along the Esplanade completing the first of the four 5+kms laps.
On the final lap, after of coming off the beach and heading back along the Esplanade, runners turn left and run into the transition area and the finish line.

A drinks station is located at the turn off the Esplanade to Muirs Beach so runners can rehydrate both heading out along Muirs Beach and on their return.

If we can not work around the tides we will advise of an alternate run course.

5KM RUN:

Coles bay Sprint

At the end of the lap after of coming off the beach and heading back up towards the Esplanade, runners turn left and run into the transition area and the finish line.
